CISH provides support services to students through our Pastoral Care, Counselling, EAL and Learning Support (SEN) departments.
Pastoral Care
The pastoral care team works to create a positive and safe environment at the school. The Pastoral Care Coordinators work proactively to prevent student misbehavior and to manage student behavior issues when they occur. The Pastoral Care Coordinators will communicate with parents when any serious behavior incident occurs. Fair and consistent consequences are applied when misbehavior occurs, in line with our policies, but more importantly, our goal is to help students learn and grow from their mistakes.
Counselling
The CISH counselling team is available to all students who need social or emotional support. A school counsellor is a safe individual who students can speak to about any issues they may be struggling with. A counsellor is an objective listener and does not get involved with student discipline in order to remain a safe and neutral individual to whom students can turn. Counsellors will keep all information shared with them confidential unless it involves the safety of the child. Counsellors must take action and follow up with the school safeguarding team if a child reports a suicide threat, any form of abuse, or other harmful issues.
English as an Additional Language (EAL)
CISH has a comprehensive EAL program to support students who are still developing their English language skills. EAL support is required for students whose English is not sufficient enough for them to participate in classes at the standard level of achievement. An additional fee is required for students to receive EAL services.
Learning Support (SEN)
CISH is unable to support students with significant special learning or behavioral needs. Limited support is provided for students who are able to function in the mainstream classroom. Our SEN Coordinator helps teachers to differentiate instruction and to implement strategies in the classroom to support students with special needs. An Individual Learning Plan may be implemented for students who have been diagnosed with learning or behavioral difficulties. The school may request that students who are facing learning or behavioral challenges be tested by a professional organization (using a psycho-educational analytical assessment) to determine the cause of the difficulties.
